- DESCRIPTION:
Capable of countless variations, this classic and elegant script was the basis for many early type designs during the advent of printing in Renaissance Italy. Versatile in its uses, its beauty and legibility have made it the choice for many handwritten manuscripts. You will learn the basic construction of this alphabet, including simple capitals and numerals. Many examples will be shown, and fundamentals of layout will be introduced to help ensure a favorable outcome to your final project.
All levels of lettering experience are welcome.

- SUPPLIES: Black ink (Higgins Eternal), Brause nib size 2 1/2 mm, nib holder, pad of 11” x 14” layout bond, T-square, ruler, pencil, eraser, water jar, cotton rag.
- BIO: Judy Detrick has taught calligraphy and graphic design at College of the Redwoods on the Mendocino coast for more than twenty-five years, and developed the current Graphic Arts Certificate Program there. A parallel interest of hers is letterpress printing, and she incorporates calligraphy into her letterpress work whenever possible. Her work can be found in the Harrison Collection of the San Francisco Public Library.
